My View: Bush The Egotist
by Christine Smith
I am pleased to see Bush's approval ratings reaching so low. For the past few years, I have wondered what
will it take for Americans to see past the propaganda they've been fed. Sadly, it has taken 2,500 American
military men and women's deaths...and estimates of over 100,000 Iraqi deaths--many of those civilians, for
Americans to begin to see just what this egotist is doing...it is my hope Americans will stay strong in
their disapproval of him..and remember it when they enter the voting booths. It is my opinion that Americans
who care about American security and American liberties should cast votes only for candidates who oppose
what Bush and his gang have done to our nation.
Attacking Iraq (and using 9-11 as an excuse) was a major mistake for our nation. If the United States falls
victim to another murderous terrorist attack, Americans might again be led by their fear and the likely
propaganda that such an attack would have proven Bush correct. On the contrary, I believe that if we suffer
such a horrible attack again, it will be, in large part, because of Bush's refusal to admit he made a grave
mistake in Iraq, and due to America's continued presence in Iraq and the Middle East in general. Our presence
in that part of the world enrages our enemies.
America should take care of America--on our soil--not pursue imperialistic military actions worldwide dressed up
and presented to the American people as 'defense' or spreading of 'democracy.' ...
Our people, our safety, should be his priority, and Bush is, in my opinion, an egotist putting his political
agenda above the best interest of our nation. I do not believe we are in Iraq for the benefit of the Iraqi
people (nor should we be)...we should never have been in Iraq.
I believe the policy which would be in America's best interest (our safety, security, well-being, and which
would in my opinion lessen the likelihood of another murderous attack against American civilians) is immediate
withdrawal from Iraq. We must end the deaths of our military; we must end the deaths of Iraqi civilians; we
must leave a country we had no business invading to begin with.
Yes, civil war will result...but only a little sooner than it probably would eventually anyway. America has
disrupted Iraq to such an extent...peace is not even a possibility...and I don't think ever was. The result
will be more bloodshed in Iraq...and much of that due to what our nation has inflicted upon them by our unjustified
invasion, occupation, and then withdrawal...but their civil wars are theirs to fight...not ours to die for.
Bush will have failed in the political agenda for American geopolitical control, America will have suffered over
2,500 military dead, Iraqi civilians in the tens of thousands of deaths...no gain will have come to the American
people -- only loss. But we must cut our losses; we must not support Bush's continued attack in Iraq or anywhere
in that region. We are only enraging more and more people, making our military their targets in Iraq, and in my
opinion, increasing the risk America will again be targeted.
My opinion is that only full withdrawal, combined with using our billions of dollars (now being wasted in Iraq)
on security within our own nation, will lead to greater protection and perhaps reduced probability of another
tragic murderous attack on our soil. We must protect America...we must protect Americans...by using our military
and our financial resources here at home-on our soil-for greater security.
The low approval ratings are heartening...now if only the American people will 'stay the course' in their disapproval
of a man who, in my opinion, is endangering all Americans by his ego-driven assault on Iraq. Bush, in my opinion,
does not care about the lives of American or Iraqi people; he cares only about his political agenda.
Stay strong in your disapproval of Bush...Bush will, in my opinion, go to great lengths to extricate himself from
our low opinion of him...believe none of it...trust your feelings, be strong in your love of our nation, its
Constitution, and the lives of our military men and women. Personally, I do not trust Bush...I do not believe
anything that comes out of his mouth. His actions have spoken far louder than his words. He owes the American
people, and the world, a strong apology and admission of having made a serious mistake followed by immediate
actions to correct the mistake...but his ego refuses to admit to such a mistake.
'The State of the U.nion is strong,' Bush said in his 2006 state of the u.nion ...more BS from the White
House with 'B' standing for Bush...just another meaningless stale speech filled with platitudes and
nonsensical defense of American imperialism. On the contrary, our U.nion is threatened by more and
more enemies which our country is enraging worldwide...while the American people struggle financially
to have the basics.
Rather than addressing any real problems with real solutions, Bush simply and predictably continues to
defend his war on Iraq, and justifies attacks on our civil liberties...he speaks of democracy and
freedom while he and his gang continue, in my opinion, to try and eliminate it within our own nation.
What we need is democracy in the United States.
We're a nation with 36 million in poverty; a nation in which I believe we receive comparatively little in return
for the taxes we pay; a nation whose education system lags behind other nations'; a nation without healthcare
for all its citizens; a nation that sends our military men and women to fight and die in wars in parts of the
world that are no direct threat to us.
Fear controls most people. Say no to your fears, and boldly speak the truth. It's not about one day or one protest,
it's about the way you choose to live your life....as a fighter for truth or as a victim.
Stop caring about what other's are going to think...Speak, write..become politically active.
We the people must make it possible for good men to have a chance to run--We must demand electoral finance reform,
we must demand to get something back in proportion to the taxes we pay, we must create a truly representative
government.
Most importantly now, we must oppose Bush and his gang's current imperialistic policies. Keep those approval
ratings low...and voice your opposition to what he has done to our nation in allowing our military to die
needlessly and wasting our resources upon his war rather than focusing on truly defending freedom--OUR freedom
and OUR way of life--here in America.
Egotists do not admit mistakes, much less correct them. I believe the ego always marches straight to defeat, I
just don't want to see egotists take America down with them.
It is our American way of life and our Constitution which should have been Bush's priority...and in my opinion,
in that, he has failed miserably as a president. I believe he will go down in history to date as the worst
president America has ever had.
